MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday said P49.8 million worth of funds will be allocated as financial assistance to over 8,000 contractual employees of the city government.
In a statement, Moreno said he signed Ordinance No. 8701 which gives P5,000 cash aid to workers under a “job order contract or contract of service” to cushion the impacts of the coronavirus disease pandemic.
Under the ordinance, the funds for the contractual workers’ financial aid will be sourced from Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) accounts under the 2020 Executive Budget of Manila.
Meanwhile, the mayor said the ordinance was also passed “in view of the continuing rise of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the serious threat to the health, safety, security and lives of our countrymen, the long-term adverse effects on their means of livelihood, and the severe disruption of economic activities.”
