CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –– President Duterte has appointed former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as Presidential Adviser on Clark Programs and Projects.
She is to receive one peso as compensation per year, Duterte said in the appointment letter dated Nov. 24 but released to Pampanga-based reporters on Nov. 26.
The Clark Freeport Zone, all of 4,300 hectares, is home to the Clark International Airport, which is getting a railway from Manila. The zone hosted more than 1,000 export firms with 140,000 workers before the COVID-19 pandemic.
After her 10-year stint as President, Arroyo served as congresswoman of Pampanga’s second district, which is now represented by her son, Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo. She serves as a consultant of the Pampanga provincial government.
Retired Police Gen. Manuel Gaerlan is reported to be the next president of the state-owned Clark Development Corp.
