Barili town council asked: Probe worker claiming to be mayor’s secretary

A DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways district engineer has asked the town council of Barili town in western Cebu to investigate a job order employee who claimed to be a secretary of Barili Mayor Teresito Marinas.

District Engineer James Dellosa wrote Barili Vice Mayor Marlon Garcia requesting for an investigation on Vicente “Bebot” Villarin.

In his letter to Garcia, Dellosa said that Villarin called up his assistant district engineer and the construction engineer last January 18 to complain about the construction of the Livestock Auction project in barangay Mantalongon, Barili town.

Villarin claimed that he was the secretary of Mayor Marinas.

Dellosa claimed that Villarin told the DPWH engineers that the construction was done without the coordination of the municipal mayor.

Villarin also told the DPWH officials that they should issue a closure order on the project.

He also told the officials that the project was allegedly “overpriced” and this should be brought to the attention of the Visayas Ombudsman.

Villar said the engineers involved in the project should be jailed.

Last Wednesday during the town council’s regular session, the town councilors summoned Dellosa and Villarin to appear before council for investigation.

Villarin, however, didn’t attend the session.

Dellosa told the council that Villarin appeared to be drunk when he called up their office because one of Dellosa’s engineers was with Villarin at that time.

During Wednesday’s session, the town councilors found out that Villarin was only a job order employee under the mayor’s office.

Barili Vice Mayor Garcia told Cebu Daily News yesterday that Dellosa planned to file a complaint against Villarin. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
