Suspect in killing of cop finally nabbed after 10 years
MANILA, Philippines — A suspect in the killing of a Makati police officer was arrested on Monday in Las Piñas, 10 years after the crime, Col. Oscar Jacildo, chief of the Makati City Police Station said on Tuesday.
The suspect, 29-year-old Fatima Nacario of Barangay East Rembo, Makati.
She was one of 12 people implicated in the stabbing of Buay Mendoza 0n Sept. 20, 2010. Buay then had a rank of police officer 2, the equivalent of corporal under the current police ranking system.
He was responding to a report about someone firing a gun in Barangay East Rembo. Several people then ganged up on him and stabbed him to death.
Two of those charged with murder of the officer — Julius Cortez Labiano and Jay-ar Bansilan — had already been convicted and serving four-year prison terms.
Nacario, who is No. 1 in Makati’s list of most wanted persons, was nabbed after police received a tip from a confidential informant about her whereabouts in Las Piñas last Nov. 3.

Article continues after this advertisementNacario has an arrest warrant for murder issued by Judge Honorio Guanlao Jr. of Regional Trial Court Branch 57. The warrant has no bail recommended.
Nacario was detained at Makati police station for booking procedure while authorities await the issuance of a commitment order from the court.
