MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has placed at nearly P13 billion the damage to agriculture and infrastructure left behind by Typhoon “Ulysses” (international name: Vamco) in eight regions in Luzon.
Based on an NDRRMC report released on Sunday, the strongest typhoon to hit the country so far this year destroyed P8.69 billion worth of infrastructure in the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Metro Manila.
The cost of damage to agriculture in the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol region, CAR and the National Capital Region was P4.21 billion, the report added.
In terms of infrastructure, Cagayan Valley incurred the highest damage with P4.95 billion. It also sustained P1.1 billion in damage to agriculture, next to Central Luzon with P1.3 billion as the typhoon destroyed rice, corn and other high-value crops and produce.
Even Metro Manila also reported damage to agriculture, consisting of P216 million worth of produce and farming equipment valued at P134 million.
