DSWD assures ample funds to aid typhoon victims

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assured that it has sufficient funds to aid victims of Typhoon Ulysses.

In an interview with Radyo Inquirer on Thursday at the sidelines of relief operations in San Mateo, Rizal, DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said the department has other programs that could help victims of the typhoon, which ravaged parts of Luzon.

“Maitatawid natin ‘yan. Meron tayong enough funds kasi ang titingnan natin hindi lang naman ‘yung family food packs, or non-food items ang binibigay ng DSWD,” he said.

(We can tide them over. We have enough funds because the DSWD does not only provide family food packs or non-food items.)

“Meron din tayong binibigay na ibang program katulad ng (We also have other programs like) regular assistance to individuals in crisis situation in form of cash assistance, medical assistance, educational assistance, burial assistance,” he added.

Aside from these initiatives, Bautista said the DSWD also has a sustainable livelihood program and emergency shelter assistance that could help aid victims of the typhoon.
