Smartmatic voting machines up for retooling

The Commission on Elections opened on Nov. 17 the bidding for a P660-million contract to refurbish nearly 100,000 vote-counting machines from Smartmatic International and more than 109,000 secure digital cards for the May 2022 presidential elections. The poll body will conduct a prebid conference online on Nov. 25 for prospective bidders. The bidding will close on Dec. 9. —DONA Z. PAZZIBUGAN
