NDRRMC: Ulysses left P5.7B in infrastructure damage in Luzon

MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon Ulysses has so far left some P5.7 billion in infrastructure damage after pummelling Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Wednesday (Nov. 18).

The destruction was recorded in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Cordillera and National Capital Region.

Damage to agriculture was pegged at P2.9 billion in the same areas, the NDRRMC said.

The official death toll stood at 73 while 19 were still missing and the number of wounded was 24.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a state of calamity in the entire island of Luzon after a string of typhoons that battered the country.

A state of calamity declaration would free up funds for use of local government units for relief and rehabilitation efforts. It would also allow the acceptance of foreign aid.
