According to the initial report of the Palawan provincial police, the victim, identified as 35-year-old Eric Jay Magcamit, was on his way to Quezon town in Puerto Princesa when the two suspects flagged down his Toyota Innova in Narra town.
The assailants later made Magcamit step down from his vehicle, before firing upon the victim using a .45 caliber handgun.
The lawyer sustained gunshot wounds on his head and left leg, leading to his instantaneous death, police added.
Magcamit is the 53rd person in the list of lawyers, prosecutors and judges killed under the Duterte administration since 2016.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Palawan Chapter strongly denounced Magcamit’s death.
“It is our consistent stand that violence has no place in this civilized society, especially against those in the legal profession who are courageously helping in the administration of justice,” the IBP-Palawan said in a statement.
“This tragic incident is not only an attack to a member of the IBP but also an attack to the legal order and justice system by means of fear and violence,” it further said, adding that the perpetrators “must be swiftly brought into the hands of the law by those in authority.”
