4 more COVID-19 patients die in Quezon, death toll rises to 133

LUCENA CITY — The deaths from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Quezon province rose to 133 after four more fatalities were listed on Monday, authorities reported.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed that the four male patients from the municipalities of San Narciso, Mulanay, island town of Quezon and Tayabas City – two of them with comorbidity illnesses – succumbed to COVID-19. The fatality in Mulanay was the first in the locality.

The IPHO records show that from November 1 to 16, a total of 25 COVID-19 patients died in the municipalities of Gumaca, Mulanay, Quezon, San Narciso, Sariaya, Unisan, Catanauan, Sampaloc, Lopez, Atimonan and the cities of Tayabas and Lucena.

At least 42 of the total fatalities were recorded during the month of October. Lucena City, the capital of the province, had the highest fatalities with 41.

Quezon, which is under the most relaxed modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status, has also recorded 925 new COVID-19 cases in the past 16 days, that has already surpassed the tally of 703 cases in August and 874 in September.

The province logged a total of 4,662 COVID-19 cases, 3,576 recoveries and 953 active cases as of Monday.

Local health authorities are closely monitoring 290 suspected carriers of the virus who are in medical and isolation facilities. At least 303 others are on home quarantine.
