MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Masbate on Monday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake happened at 2:35 p.m., about 15 kilometers east of Pio V. Cruz, Masbate, Phivolcs said in its bulletin.
The quake was felt with the following intensities:
- Intensity IV – Pio V. Corpuz and Cataingan, Masbate; Almagro and Tagapul-an, Samar; Naval, Maripipi, Kawayan, Almeria, and Cabucgayan, Biliran; Calubian, Leyte; Medellin, Cebu
- Intensity III – San Isidro, Villaba, Tabango, and Leyte, Leyte; Calbayog City; Catbalogan City; Palanas, Masbate
- Intensity II – Tacloban City; Ormoc City; Barugo, Tanauan, Dulag, Julita, Palo, Palompon, Capoocan, Kananga, Carigara and Jaro, Leyte; Irosin, Sorsogon;
Masbate City
- Intensity I – Liloan, Cebu; Mandaue City; Cebu City; Lapu-Lapu City; Palapag, Northern Samar
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity IV – Naval,Biliran
- Intensity III – Catbalogan City
- Intensity II – Ormoc City; Palo, Leyte
- Intensity I – Talibon, Bohol; Lapu-Lapu City; Bago City
The tremor was not expected to cause major damage but it may spawn aftershocks, Phivolcs said.
