CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses spared the two New Clark City facilities that were converted into quarantine facilities for patients infected with mild coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“Thankfully, wala naman nasira sa [National Government Administrative Center or NGAC] kahit napakalakas ng ulan at hangin na naranasan dito. The resilient metropolis of New Clark City has always been ready for any and all situations, including strong typhoons,” said Vivencio Dizon, Bases Conversion and Development president, after a recent inspection.
The NGAC held 428 patients when the typhoon lashed Central Luzon on Thursday, according to Dizon, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Deputy chief implementer.
The Athletes’ Village near the NGAC also withstood the intense winds and severe rains. The Pampanga and Tarlac provincial governments used these to treat patients with mild COVID-19 cases.
Dizon said the two facilities helped treat some 10,000 patients.
