DOE: Electricity in Cagayan to be fully restored in 2 days

MANILA, Philippines — Electricity in Cagayan province may be restored within two days once floods subside, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Sunday.

In a briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte in Cagayan, Cusi said Tuguegarao City has been “partly” energized while power was restored in 27 out 385 barangays serviced by Cagelco I electric cooperative.

Meanwhile, the other cooperative, Cagelco II, is waiting for activation by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

“They are ready to receive power but only considering the safety of the people because of the flood,” Cusi said.

Asked by President Duterte when power in the province will be fully restored, Cusi said in two days’ time.

“As soon as the water subsides and we finish the inspection, within 2 days,” he said.

Ulysses, the 21st cyclone storm to hit the country this year, triggered massive flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

It likewise caused flooding in Cagayan Valley, particularly the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela.

Typhoon Ulysses have so far claimed the lives of 67 people, 22 of which came from Cagayan Valley.
