Floodwaters that reached up to 7-foot deep inundated almost the entire city of Tuguegarao between Friday and Saturday. Some residents were trapped on their rooftops waiting for the flood to recede after the Magat Dam released water and rivers overflow due to incessant rains dumped by Typhoon Ulysses and enhanced by the tailend of a cold front. TUGUEGARAO CITY–From seven spillway gates with 22-meter opening in the last two days, only one gate remained open to release water in Magat Dam on Sunday morning, according to the dam officials.

At 6 a.m., the volume of water being spilled by the watershed was at 834 cubic meters per second through a 2-meter gate opening.

The dam’s level was at 192.15 meters above sea level (masl), which was slightly lower than its 193-spill mark.

According to the Cagayan provincial disaster risk-reduction and management office, 10 people have died at the height of the massive flooding in the province.

The fatalities were recorded in the towns of Baggao, Alcala, Gonzaga, and in this capital city.
