MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday said the death toll from Typhoon Ulysses is now at 33.
“Ito pong count dito sa NDRRMC, ang ating casualties po ay umabot na ng 33 na tao ang nasawi dahil kay Bagyong Ulysses,” NDRRMC spokesman Mark Timbal said during the Laging Handa online press briefing.

Of the 33 that were killed, 16 were from Cagayan Valley, six were from the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) region, five were from the Bicol Region, and six were from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
Meanwhile, 22 were also reported injured, Timbal added. Those injured were from Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, the Bicol Region, and CAR.
“Twenty po na mga kababayan natin ang (20 of our countrymen are also) missing,” Timbal said.
Typhoon Ulysses dumped rain over Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Metro Manila, leaving massive flood and widespread destruction in its path.
For Metro Manila residents, the rains dumped by the typhoon brought back memories of Tropical Storm Ondoy, where torrential rains flooded areas of the capital region back in 2009.
