The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the first fire was reported at around 9 p.m. at the Balagbag na Bulod slope at the southern flank of Mayon Volcano in Barangay Bonga, Legazpi City.
The BFP is currently looking at the possibility that the bushfire was started by residents engaged in “kaingin” (slash and burn) to make charcoal.
The second incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. at the back of the Albay Provincial Jail at the foot of Ligñon Hill in Barangay Tagas, Daraga town.
The BFP report said residents of the village may have torched a garbage pile that got out of control.
