MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City government on Friday said the locality now has the smallest number of recorded active COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila and the entire Philippines.
In a statement, it said the city logged only nine active cases of COVID-19 on November 11 and six active cases on November 9.
Citing data from the Taguig City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit, the local government said the last time the city had single-digit active cases was March 18.
This development, the local government added, also means that Taguig City has only one active COVID-19 case per 100,000 citizens, which, according to them, is the lowest ratio among Metro Manila’s local governments.
Currently, Taguig City’s COVID-19 case count is at 8,988. This includes the 8,889 recovered patients and the 66 deceased.
“Our efforts bore fruit,” Mayor Lino Cayetano said during a session of the Sangguniang Panglungsod that passed the city’s 2021 recovery budget.
Nevertheless, Cayetano urged his constituents to remain “aggressive” in avoiding the disease even as their city registers a low number of active cases.
As of November 13, the Philippines has 404,713 COVID-19 cases, including 362,902 recoveries and 7,752 deaths.
