Overstaying Japanese held for offering bogus jobs
A japanese man who is believed to have duped several Filipino women with offers of marriage and jobs in Japan was nabbed in an entrapment operation on Wednesday by joint elements of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Takashi Yamashita, 41, was arrested by the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) of the CIDG and Task Force Maverick near SM Centerpoint in Sta. Mesa, Manila, at about 6 p.m.
In a report to CIDG director Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., CIDG-WCPD chief Supt. Emma Libunao said Yamashita’s arrest came after they received complaints from Glenda Tolentino, 27, of Tondo, Manila, and Maricel Salente, 24, of Valenzuela City.
“Both Tolentino and Salente claimed before WCPD investigators that they were promised marriage and jobs in Japan, but these did not materialize,” the CIDG said.
Documents seized from the suspect revealed that he had offered the same proposals to several other Filipino women from the Visayas and Mindanao.
Yamashita arrived in the country in June 1998 at the age of 28, according to Bureau of Immigration records. His latest entry was dated 2002.
