Ulysses 1st fatality in Rizal is Cainta teen

SAN PEDRO CITY –– A 15-year-old male from Cainta was the first recorded fatality in Rizal after Typhoon Ulysses struck the province and Metro Manila from late Wednesday to early Thursday.

Rizal disaster risk reduction and management officer Loel Malonzo said the teen died from injuries after a toppled tree fell on the victim’s house at the height of the typhoon.

The victim was identified as Robert Napenas Jr. from Country Homes Subdivision in Cainta.

Malonzo, in a phone interview Thursday afternoon, said rescue operation continued for thousands of residents caught in deep floodwater in San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal.

Cainta Mayor Johnielle Keith Nieto, in a Facebook post, said floodwater at Halang in Barangay San Isidro began to slightly subside, while major roads are now passable.
