MANILA, Philippines — The Binga, Magat and Angat Dams have started releasing excess water due to Typhoon Ulysses, state hydrologist Richard Orindain said Thursday.
Orindain said Binga Dam in Benguet and Magat Dam, major source of irrigation water in Luzon, were already discharging water as its water level exceeded the “normal water level.”
“Iyong Binga Dam nagpapakawala din po. Anim na gates [ang binuksan],” Orindain said in Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) online briefing at 11 a.m.
(Binga Dam is releasing water through six gates.)
He said Binga Dam has an outflow of 494.71 cubic meters per second.
Areas affected by the discharge are Barangay Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet.
Magat Dam, Orindain added, opened two gates to release water with a total outflow of 989 cubic meter per second.
Affected areas near Magat Dam are Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian and Gamu in Isabela.
Angat Dam started releasing water at 1 p.m.
“May announcement na po ang Angat Dam na ngayong ala una nang hapon, magbubukas po ito ng isang gate. Total outflow niya is 60 cubic meter per second,” he said.

Affected areas are Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel and Hagonoy in Bulcan.
