MANILA, Philippines — Calabarzon police director Police Brigadier General Vicente Danao Jr., who was Davao police chief during then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s term, is appointed as the new chief of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
This was confirmed Tuesday by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año in a text message to reporters, who asked him about Danao’s reported appointment as Metro Manila police chief.
“Yes, that’s correct.”
This comes in the wake of the promotion of outgoing NCRPO director, Police General Debold Sinas, as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), in place of Gen. Camilo Cascolan who has reached retirement age on November 10.
As Calabarzon police chief, Danao led security and evacuation efforts during Taal Volcano’s unrest early this year.
Before his stint in Calabarzon, Danao was Manila City Police force’s boss in 2018.
Danao, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991, also served as Davao police chief from 2013 to 2016 when Duterte was still mayor of the city.
In September, Cascolan said he was eyeing to choose Danao as the next chief of Metro Manila police, a position that is considered as a stepping stone to becoming PNP chief.
