LEGAZPI CITY—The suspension of classes in the entire province of Camarines Sur was extended for another week as restoration efforts following the onslaught of Supertyphoon Rolly continue.
Gov. Miguel Luis Villafuerte, in a memorandum released on Sunday, said classes in all levels, both public and private, will not resume until Nov. 16.
“This is to give due consideration to learners and educators who do not have access to electricity and internet connection as power and telecommunication providers continue their repair and restoration efforts,” Villafuerte said.
Meanwhile, in Naga City, Mayor Nelson Legacion has announced in a memorandum that classes will resume on Wednesday after a consultation with the city schools division superintendent, Dr. Mariano De Guzman.
Legacion’s memorandum only covers kindergarten and Grade 12, however.
“For college and graduate studies levels, date and manner for the resumption of their classes shall be determined by their respective school administrators,” he said.
On Nov. 1, Supertyphoon Rolly (international name: Goni) battered the Bicol region and left 147,645 houses destroyed and 126,094 needing repairs, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
As of Wednesday, data from the OCD reveal that the damage to school buildings and non-infrastructures in Camarines Sur was at P1.6 billion, more than a quarter of the total damage to schools all over the region.
