Quezon COVID-19 watch: 12 deaths in 1 week, 4,228 total cases

LUCENA CITY – Twelve coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths were recorded in one week in Quezon province,  local officials said.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)  reported that from November 1 to 7, 12 COVID-19 patients died in the municipalities of Unisan, Catanauan, Sampalaloc, Lopez, Atimonan and the cities of Tayabas and Lucena.

The COVID-19 death toll in the province rose to 120. Forty two of the fatalities were recorded in October.

Provincial health authorities are closely monitoring  290 suspected carriers of the virus who are in medical and isolation facilities. At least 303 others are on home quarantine.

Quezon, which is under the most relaxed modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status, has also recorded 491 new COVID-19 cases in the past seven days, bringing the total tally of infected individuals to 4,228 (1,080 active cases) since the pandemic broke out early March.

A total of  3,028 patients have so far recovered.

On Thursday, at least 114 new cases were recorded and another 115 the next day, the highest single-day tally in the province.

On Wednesday, the OCTA Research, a group of experts monitoring the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines, tagged Lucena City as a high risk area due to high daily caseload, attack rate, or high hospital occupancy.
