Olongapo village exec tests positive for COVID-19 days after death

SAN ANTONIO, ZAMBALES – A village official of Olongapo City, who died on Nov. 4 from an affliction related to a spinal condition, has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The unnamed 69-year-old man, who is an official of Barangay (village) New Banicain, died from a “neurogenic shock secondary to CVD bleed vs infarct,” according to a Nov. 6 statement from Olongapo Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr.

The man was rushed to the city hospital after complaining of abdominal pains, as well as breathing difficulties, on October 31. He underwent a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on Monday (Nov. 2), but died two days after.

The latest fatality raises the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Olongapo to 29. With 11 new infections, the city now has 854 total number of COVID-19 cases. About 758 patients have since recovered.
