MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has more than 3,600 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) per one million population as of November 3, a German market and consumer data company reported.

In a chart shared by data company Statista, the Philippines has 3,629 COVID-19 cases per one million population based on the 387,161 cases in the country as of November 3.

This number is higher than that of other countries such as Japan, which has 817 cases per one million population, Nigeria with 322 cases, and China with 66 cases.

However, Philippines’ numbers are lower than Israel, the United States, India, Brazil, and some countries in Europe.

According to the data company’s chart, here are the confirmed COVID-19 cases per one million population in selected countries with a population of over four million and with over five thousand confirmed cases as of November 3:

The data company said that “most hard-hit countries in Asia” are “well below” the numbers when compared to some countries in other continents.

“India – the second most affected country in the world by total numbers – only has a relatively small tally of just over 6,000 confirmed cases per million population and other countries in the region fare even better despite the still-raging virus,” Statista said.

“The Philippines counted 3,600 cases/million, while Indonesia only counted 1,500. China currently has one of the lowest per-capita counts in the ranking at only 66 cases recorded per one million people,” it added.

Meanwhile, Statista said countries like Belgium and Czechia as well as Switzerland and the Netherlands have moved up among the country ranking of coronavirus cases per capita with the second wave of the coronavirus underway in Europe.

“Israel, which experienced an early second wave (and second lockdown) remains in rank 2 for cases per one million of population, however. Countries in Asia and Africa retain much lower numbers,” it added.

Statista added that Latin American and Gulf states “had scored most poorly in the ranking.”

“They remain hard-hit with around 26,500 cases/million population in Brazil and Panama, Peru, Chile and Argentina all at or above that threshold,” Statista said.

“Kuwait counted almost 31,000 cases per million population in early November, while Oman counted 24,000. The United States tallied 28,000 cases per one million Americans and larger European coronavirus hotbeds like France and Spain score just below that,” it added.
