Guard told: Answer raps on Monday

The security guard who was charged with qualified theft for the loss of over P1.6 million from the office vault of the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) asked for more time to answer the allegations against him.

Joselyndo Jabagat has yet to finish his counter-affidavit refuting the accusations hurled against him.

Assistant City Prosecutor Gandhi Truya gave Jabagat until Monday to submit his answer.

In an interview, Truya said he will resolve the complaint after Jabagat files his counter-affidavit.

Jabagat was assisted by lawyer Gloria Lastimosa-Dalawampu.

In an earlier interview, Jabagat denied allegations that he has knowledge of the burglary at the CCSC last Jan. 16.

He, however, admitted that he fell asleep when the incident took place.

Three persons executed an affidavit against Jabagat.

Manuel Quemada, a utility crew of SFI, said he and fellow employees were drinking session at around 12:30 a.m. after they finished retrieving tables and chairs from the command center.

He said Jabagat briefly joined them, took a shot of liquor and left.

At around 2:50 a.m., Jabagat returned to them and took another shot.

Quemada said he noticed a man go inside the administration office of the Cebu City Sports Center.

He informed Jabagat about it but the guard allegedly replied, “Nipanso ra na siya” and didn’t verify the report.

Quemada said he also told the guard to close the room for safety.

About five minutes later, the man who went inside the Administration Office went out carrying something.

Jabagat allegedly didn’t do anything.

Quemada said the guard left them after the undentified man went out.

Rotita Velasco, a utility crew of SFI, said Jabagat asked for the key of the SFI office at around 11 p.m. of Jan. 15.

She said she didn’t give the key to Jabagat but to John Michael Pepito, a Sinulog Foundation staff.

Velasco later took the key back.

John Eric Carcedo, a security guard at the Cebu City Sports Center, said he noticed that the Administration Office was open at around 3:37 am.

He said he did not see Jabagat there./ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
