Bathalad to hold annual convention

BATHALAD Inc. will hold its annual convention at the Marcelo Fernan Press Center in Ecotech, sitio Sudlon, barangay Lahug, Cebu City, today, Jan. 28.

The group of Cebuano poets and writers is holding the convention in partnership with The Arts Council of Cebu, furthering its commitment to uphold the local literary arts.

The theme of Bathalad’s 2012 convention is “Kinutil: Ang pagtuhop sa balak sa ubang porma sa arte,” featuring two speakers and several performers.

Radel Paredes will talk on the poetry that is visual art, while Bisdak rapper Kris Villarino will share his experience in incorporating poetry into his rap.

Performance artists and Bathalad members Russ Ligtas and Chai Fonacier will do butoh and beat poetry.

A mixed media exhibit will feature for viewing works of Radel Paredes, Josua Cabrera, Champoy Hate, Janel Lim, Nomar Miano, K Paller-Rivera, Soi Paz, RV Sanchez, Jeffrey Sisican, Noel Villaflor and Adonis Durado.

The winners of Bathalad’s recent writing contest will also be announced and awarded by Bathalad founder Mel Allego.

Bathalad founding members and younger torchbearers will also be reading their poetry in between the lectures and performances.

The convention will start at 1 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. All literature students and enthusiasts in Cebu are invited.

Registration fee is P100, inclusive of snacks and reading materials.
