BACOLOD CITY—Regional authorities stopped the return of stranded individuals to several towns in Negros Occidental after local government units wanted more time to prepare quarantine facilities.
The Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) of Western Visayas approved requests by officials of Cadiz City and the towns of Manapla and Binalbagan to temporarily stop the arrival of stranded individuals into their areas, according to Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, chief of the provincial disaster management program division.
In Cadiz City, stranded individuals are barred from entry from Nov. 2-6. Manapla’s doors would be closed to the stranded people from Nov. 5-18. Binalbagan won’t allow entry for stranded individuals from Nov. 2-16.
The local governments of Cadiz, Manapla and Binalbagan earlier asked for a moratorium on entry of stranded people to decongest, disinfect and prepare existing quarantine facilities for the new batch of stranded individuals.
Negros Occidental has 4,728 COVID-19 cases with 3,134 recoveries and 79 deaths.
Bacolod has 4,830 cases with 4,401 recoveries and 127 deaths
