MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday afternoon will conduct an aerial inspection in the hardest hit areas of Typhoon Rolly in Bicol Region and Calabarzon, Malacañang said Monday.
“It’s confirmed that PRRD will be flying from Davao to Manila today. En route to Manila he will be conducting an aerial inspection in Bicolandia and Calabarzon,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
The President’s former aide and confidante Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go earlier confirmed Duterte will conduct an aerial survey over Legazpi, Albay.
“Ang ating Pangulo ay mismong pupunta mamayang hapon doon sa mga lugar na tinamaan ng bagyo. Yung mga hardest hit po ay kanyang bibisitahin, magkakaroon din siya ng aerial inspection,” Go announced during a televised briefing.
(Our President will personally visit this afternoon the areas badly hit by typhoon, especially the hardest-hit areas. He will have an aerial inspection.)
“Pupuntahan niya po itong Legazpi at ang probinsya po ng Albay. Nais po ng Presidente makita kaagad kung ano yung extent ng damage na sinalanta ng bagyo,” he added.
(He will visit Legazpi in the province of Albay. The President wants to see firsthand the extent of damage of the typhoon.)
The senator added that Duterte will also have a situation briefing with Cabinet officials after visiting Albay.
Duterte’s scheduled aerial inspection comes after #NasaanAngPangulo topped the trending Twitter topics in the Philippines as Typhoon Rolly battered the Bicol Region.
Despite criticism, Roque and Go assured that the President was monitoring the situation of typhoon-hit areas from his hometown Davao City.
