NDRRMC: 4 out of 10 houses in Catanduanes heavily damaged

MANILA, Philippines — Four out of 10 houses in Catanduanes were severely damaged after Typhoon Rolly battered the province over the weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said this was the initial assessment provincial officials.

“The only observation they provided was a line of sight observation wherein there are damage encountered to houses,” Timbal said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.

“The description that I received was four out of 10 houses are heavily damaged so that means six out of the 10 are partially damaged due to the storm,” he added.

Timbal said NDRRMC has limited communication in Catanduanes after Rolly damaged communication and power lines in the province.

The total amount of damage and number of casualties due to Rolly are still being verified, Timbal added.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no. 5 was hoisted over Catanduanes early Sunday morning after Rolly made its first landfall in Bato town.
