Day after storm: Light to moderate rains still expected in parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines — Light to moderate and at times heavy rains are still expected over parts of the Philippines on Monday, a day after the powerful Typhoon Rolly ravaged the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to the 2 a.m. bulletin of Pagasa, rain showers may fall over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

A strong breeze that may reach near gale conditions with occasional gusts may also be expected over the northwestern portion of Occidental Mindoro, the western portion of Batangas, the extreme western portion of Laguna, Cavite, Metro Manila, the western portion of Bulacan, the western portion of Pampanga, Bataan, and the southern portion of Zambales.

The same wind conditions are expected over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the northern portions of mainland Cagayan and Zambales.

Pagasa also warned of rough to very rough seas, with waves ranging from 2.5 to 5.0 meters over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, the western seaboards of Batangas, Occidental Mindoro including Burias Island, and Calamian Islands, and eastern seaboards of Quezon including Polillo Islands and Bicol Region.

Meanwhile, waves from 1.2 to 2.5 meters will be experienced over the western seaboards of Palawan, including Kalayaan Islands and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao.

Pagasa advised mariners of small seacrafts are to take precautionary measures.

“Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions,” Pagasa added.

As of 1 a.m., Tropical Storm Rolly was located 155 kilometers west of Sangley Point in Cavite or 95 kilometers west southwest of Subic Bay.

It had maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center with a gustiness reaching up to 90 kph as it moved west-northwest at 20 kph.
