Flood hits Laguna, Quezon

SAN PEDRO CITY – Flood struck two villages in Calamba City while powerful winds swept down trees in Los Baños in Laguna province.

Laguna disaster response chief Aldwin Cejo said knee-deep floodwater inundated Palingon and Linga’s villages in Calamba City.

As of Sunday, 763 families (2,899 individuals) were evacuated mostly from Laguna lakeshore towns and high-risk areas due to typhoon Rolly.

Evacuee dies

Authorities were particularly looking at the Polilio Group of Islands and the Real, Infanta, and Gen. Nakar in Quezon. At the same time, Laguna and Batangas were told to stay on “heightened alert,” according to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon.

In Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro, a 78-year-old man died at an evacuation center but the DRRMC in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan said the incident was not exactly typhoon-related. The man was identified as Aladino Alarcon by the municipal government.

In Marinduque, the regional police said one person also went missing, but the incident’s details were not immediately known. [ac]
