MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Occidental Mindoro and Northern Palawan were advised to prepare for serious floods as the state weather bureau hoisted a red rainfall warning over the said provinces due to Typhoon Rolly.
In an advisory issued Sunday by Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), it warned “SERIOUS FLOODING is expected in low-lying areas and LANDSLIDES in mountainous areas” of Occidental Mindoro and Northern Palawan.
Meanwhile, a yellow rainfall warning was raised in the northern portions of Samar and Eastern Samar, and Biliran Island.
“FLOODING IS POSSIBLE in low-lying areas and LANDSLIDES in mountainous areas,” Pagasa said.
A red rainfall warning is usually given when 30 millimeters of rain are accumulated in a span of an hour and is expected to continue for the next two hours.
A yellow rainfall warning means heavy rainfall between 7.5 to 15 millimeters in an hour is observed and is expected to persist for the next two hours.
