BJMP personnel in Luzon on full alert as Super Typhoon Rolly makes landfall

BJMP assures enough water supply for jail facilities in NCR

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Sunday said all its facilities in Luzon are on full alert status as Super Typhoon Rolly made landfall in Catanduanes early Sunday morning.

In a statement, BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral said jail personnel in all regions were alerted to ensure the safety of detainees and secure the jail facilities from violent winds and intense rains.

“We issued a series of advisories ahead to our field units to prepare for Typhoon Rolly,” Iral said.

“The National Headquarters set up 24/7 monitoring teams to monitor our units and facilities on the ground,” he added.

Jail personnel assigned in low-lying areas were likewise ordered to prepare for possible flash floods and carry out appropriate operational plans, Iral said.

Rolly, (international name: Goni) hit Bato, Catanduanes Sunday at 4:50 a.m. and brought “catastrophic violent winds and intense to torrential rainfall” to the area, state meteorologists said.

Rolly slammed Catanduanes, packing sustained winds of 225 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 280 kph. It is moving west southwest at 25 kph.

Pagasa also hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 over Catanduanes, Albay, and the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, Tinambac, Calabanga, Siruma, Tigaon, Bombon, Magarao, Camaligan, Gainza, Canaman, Milaor, Naga City, Minalabac, Balatan, Bula, Pili, Ocampo, Goa, San Jose, Sagnay, Buhi, Iriga City, Baao, Nabua, Bato).
