2 teachers, husband and wife, dead in Apayao road crash on their way to school

BAGUIO CITY–A man and his wife, both teachers, were killed after a dump truck slammed into the motorcycle they were riding as they headed to their school on Friday (Oct. 30) in the town of Pudtol, Apayao province.

The fatalities were identified as April Mark Abad Ventura, 29 and his wife, Jaysa Agustin Ventura, 27, who are teachers in the Mataguisi Comprehensive National High School (MCNHS).

The Ventura couple were on a motorcycle and negotiating a curve around 8 a.m. when they were hit by a dump truck driven by Reynaldo Aquino Maruquin, 39.

Witnesses said the couple were almost near their school when the accident happened. Both were wearing raincoats due to the heavy downpour.

Rescuers rushed the victims to the nearest hospital but April Mark was pronounced dead before reaching the Cagayan Valley Medical Center. Jaysa died while being treated at the hospital.

The Ventura couple left behind three children–the eldest is in Grade 5 and the youngest is still in pre-school.
