MANILA, Philippines — The government’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) task force has allowed the University of the Philippines’ (UP) College of Medicine to resume its face-to-face clinical internship at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

“Inaprubahan din po kahapon ang face-to-face medical, clinical program ng University of the Philippines College of Medicine,” Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases spokesperson Harry Roque said Friday during a televised briefing.

(Also approved yesterday was the face-to-face medical, clinical program of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine.)

“Ito po ay magaganap sa UP-PGH Hospital at ito po’y magiging exception sa ilang mga omnibus guidelines ng COVID-19 na binuo ng IATF,” he added.

(This will take place at the UP-PGH hospital and this is now among the exceptions in the omnibus guidelines on COVID-19 created by the IATF.)

When the parts of the country were placed under community quarantine in March, the Association of the Philippine Medical Colleges ordered universities to pull all medical interns out of hospitals in Metro Manila.

But despite the order, over a hundred interns at the PGH opted to volunteer and stay in the frontlines to help other health care workers.
