COVID-19 death of man, 67, raises Eastern Visayas coronavirus death toll to 61

TACLOBAN CITY—A 67-year-old man from Catarman, Northern Samar died of COVID-19, raising Eastern Visayas’ coronavirus death toll to 61.

The Department of Health (DOH) in the region said the man died on Tuesday (Oct. 27) in a private hospital.

As of Thursday (Oct.28), the region has 6,540 total COVID-19 cases with 59 additional new cases coming from Northern Samar, Leyte and Samar.

The DOH said at least 5,549 COVID-19 patients from the region have already recovered from the disease.

The DOH said 5,010 COVID-19 patients have no symptoms. At least 1,400 have mild symptoms, 38 were considered severe cases and 33 were in critical condition.

In Palo town, Leyte, Mayor Frances Ann Petilla said all municipal employees will be required to disclose their current health condition to contain the spread of the virus.

Palo has 214 COVID-19 cases with three deaths. Its active cases had gone down to 36.

The town is the only area in the region which did not resort to any village lockdown. COVID-19 patients and their contacts are quickly taken to quarantine facilities in the town.
