TUGUEGARAO CITY –– A state of calamity was declared in Claveria town, Cagayan province on Thursday after the town incurred damage to crops worth P12 million due to landslides and floods.

Jayson Sacro, Claveria disaster risk reduction management officer, said widespread flooding had affected 5,000 families or 21,000 individuals in the town’s 41 villages.

The flooding triggered by incessant rains destroyed at least 300 hectares of farms.

Sacro said the flash floods damaged three houses in Barangay Taggat. Another house was buried in mudflow in Barangay Bilibigao.
