MANILA, Philippines — A barangay (village) in Las Piñas City has recorded zero cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) due to the city’s expanded targeted testing as well as aggressive contact tracing, the city government said Thursday.
In a report sent to Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar, 103 out of 106 residents in Barangay Ilaya have recovered from the disease.
Meanwhile, three out of 106 residents in Barangay Ilaya died of COVID-19.
Las Piñas City added that only one active case was reported in Barangays Daniel Fajardo and Manuyo Uno while two active cases each were reported in Barangays Talon Dos and Talon Kuatro.
The city currently makes use of the licensed molecular laboratories at the Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center, and at the Taguig City Molecular Laboratory for the conduct of COVID-19 tests.
The Las Piñas City government also has over 100 contact tracers deployed in the city’s barangays.
As of Wednesday, the city recorded 4,553 total confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of the number 4,274 are recoveries while 178 are deaths.
