Quinta brings P7.5M in farm losses in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY—Typhoon Quinta (international name Molave) brought at least P7.5 million in damage to crops and farm animals in Negros Occidental province.

Japhet Masculino, provincial agriculturist, said initial report from three towns and two cities estimated the damage to rice crops to be worth at least P6.4 million. At least 275 farmers stood to suffer from losses.

Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said more than P1 million in farm animals had been killed—chicken, pigs, goats, carabaos, turkeys and cows.

Worst hit by Quinta in the province were the cities of Bago and La Carlota and the towns of Valladolid, San Enrique, Isabela, Binalbagan, Moises Padilla and Hinoba-an, Decena said.
