MANILA, Philippines —In a bid to strengthen the promotion and establishment of energy-efficient and green buildings in the country, President Rodrigo Duterte has issued a proclamation declaring September 8 of every year as the “National Green Building Day.””

Duterte signed Proclamation 1030 on Oct. 21, a copy of which was released by Malacañang on Wednesday.

In signing the proclamation, Duterte said “to promote sustainable development in the construction sector, it is imperative to intensify existing initiatives to promote and raise awareness on the efficient and equitable use of resources, proper water, and waste management, and integration of eco-friendly processes and systems.”

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is tasked to coordinate with relevant non-government organizations and civil society groups to promote the observance of the National Green Building Day and identify programs, projects, and activities for the yearly celebration.

All other government agencies and instrumentalities are encouraged to support the DPWH in carrying out its new mandate.
