BACOLOD CITY –– Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested national officials to downgrade the quarantine status of Bacolod City, citing a downward trend in the number of COVID-19 cases in the city.
President Duterte on Monday announced that Bacolod and Iloilo cities would remain under general community quarantine until Nov. 30.
Leonardia said it is time to reduce the status of Bacolod to modified general community quarantine to reopen more businesses and revive the local economy.
The Department of Health reported on Monday that Bacolod has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas since the start of the pandemic with 4,749.
Negros Occidental has 4,286 cases while Iloilo City has 3,891.
As of Monday, Bacolod has 379 active cases and 122 deaths. Negros Occidental has 1,393 active cases and 75 deaths while Iloilo City has 632 active cases and 85 deaths.
Bacolod City Administrator Em Ang urged residents to continue wearing masks and practicing physical distancing.
