LEGAZPI CITY –– At least P286 million worth of crops and infrastructure were destroyed when Typhoon “Quinta” (international name: Molave) battered Bicol on Sunday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol said on Tuesday.
In its 11 a.m. report, OCD said initial damage to agriculture and fisheries reached P286.2 million, while losses to infrastructure posted P26 million.
Gremil Alexis Naz, OCD Bicol spokesperson, said the initial consolidated damage reports came from the provinces of Sorsogon and Camarines Sur.
The typhoon destroyed 5,588 hectares planted with crops, mostly rice, and fisheries, according to a report of the Department of Agriculture.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources reported a fishkill incident in Buhi Lake, where 20 metric tons of tilapia worth P2.1 million was lost.
A total of 6,671 houses were either damaged or destroyed.
Power was partially restored in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes.
Floods hit 20 towns in Camarines Sur and one town in Camarines Norte. Landslides were reported in barangays Bagong Silang in Presentacion town; Laganac, and Cabanbanan in Balatan town, all in Camarines Sur.
