MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines now has 371,630 COVID-19 cases after the Department of Health recorded 1,607 new infections on Monday.

Of the number, 9.8% or 36,333 are considered active. DOH said 93.6% of the active cases are mild and asymptomatic cases.

Davao City recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 infections with 90 cases, followed by Cavite (88), Rizal (74), Negros Occidental (68), and Quezon (68).

DOH likewise reported 245 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 328,258, and 62 more deaths, driving the toll to 7,039.

Moreover, DOH said it removed five duplicates from the total case count, including four recovered cases.

The DOH likewise reclassified 19 recovered cases as deaths.

The new coronavirus disease outbreak first emerged in Wuhan City, Hubei province of China in late 2019.

COVID-19 causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people. However, older adults and people with underlying health issues may experience more serious illnesses including pneumonia and death.
