COTABATO CITY– The Bangsamoro region posted its highest number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) recovery cases in a single day on Saturday, with 95 patients finally testing negative after contracting the disease.
Dr. Amirel Usman, acting health minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), said the 95 patients who survived raised to 1,142 the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in the region.
Usman said the region posted a total of 1,575 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March. Of this number, only 374 cases remained active while 59 cases led to deaths.
The Bangsamoro, however, remains to be the region with the lowest COVID-19 cases in the country, even with additional 11 new cases registered on Saturday, the BARMM Ministry of Health said.
Of the 11 new cases, nine come from Maguindanao while two cases come from Sulu.
Dipatuan said the low number of cases could only mean that the prompt reporting and timely action by local health workers had helped.
“We are sharing here the statistics, we are not celebrating this as the battle against the disease continues,” Dipatuan said.
Trailing BARMM in terms of the least number of cases is Region 4-B (Mimaropa), which recorded a total of 1,860 cases as of Oct. 24.
The total number of COVID-19 cases nationwide has reached 365,799 on Sunday, October 24.
This developed as Dr. Elizabeth Samama, Maguindanao provincial health officer, announced another “Ligtas COVID-19” isolation facility in the province’s Talitay town.
“We are happy to announce that we now have the facility in Talitay although not a single resident has been tested positive for COVID-19,” Samama said.
