Floods, landslides hit 17 villages in 2 Cagayan town

TUGUEGARAO CITY–Widespread flood inundated at least 17 villages province of Cagayan on Saturday due to incessant rains that also triggered landslides, authorities said.

Ruellie Rapsing, head of the provincial government-operated Task Force Lingkod Cagayan, said rescuers were already deployed to the affected villages in the towns of Claveria and Sta. Praxedes.

“Roads are impassable due to the landslides. Some rice fields and farm animals were also buried in the debris avalanches. Rescuers have a hard time entering the flooded and eroded areas due to fallen trees and mudflow,” Rapsing said.

At least 752 people were taken to evacuation centers due to the floods and landslides that hit the two towns.
