Motorcycle-related crimes drop 57% during pandemic — COVID task force

MANILA, Philippines — The number of criminal activities involving motorcycle-riding perpetrators dropped by 57 percent during the community quarantine period, the Joint Task Force (JTF) COVID Shield said Friday.
In a statement, Police Lieutenant Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, head of JTF COVID Shield, said motorcycle riders’ crimes decreased from 1,864 cases before the lockdown period (from August 10, 2019, to March 16, 2020) to 784 cases during the quarantine period (from March 17, 2020 to October 22).
Eleazar said the Highway Patrol Group members conducted training on tactical motorcycle riding to fight against motorcycle-riding criminals.
“These are but the aggressive measures that we are doing to maintain the biggest decline in criminal activities that we have been achieving for more than seven months now. And we will not allow motorcycle-riding criminals and all the criminal elements to normalize their illegal activities,”Eleazar said.
Eleazar said 43 Special Action Force personnel will also be included in the motorcycle training.
