Woman, 90, from Southern Leyte, tests positive for COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY –– A 90-year-old woman from Macrohon town in Southern Leyte tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The woman, a resident of Macrohon, was asymptomatic, said Mayor Alan Jose Aroy.

She and her grandson were isolated at a facility while contact tracing is being undertaken to identify their close contacts.

Macrohon currently has 33 COVID-19 cases of which 22 remained active.

Southern Leyte was placed under general community quarantine from Oct. 20 until Nov. 3.

Its provincial capital, Maasin City, is under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The move was in response to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the province.

In Northern Samar, Gov. Edwin Ongchuan also placed the entire province under MECQ for 15 days starting Oct.20.

On Thursday night, the Department of Health in the region said the number of COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas was at 6,151 with the additional 96 new patients.
