MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this Friday as the trough or extension of typhoon Pepito continues to bring rains in the western section of Luzon landmass, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The LPA, which Pagasa said could intensify into a tropical depression, was last spotted 1,145 kilometers east of Mindanao.

“Inaasahang posibleng pumasok ito ng PAR ngayong araw din po kaya mag-antabay po tayo sa mga updates ng Pagasa. Itong LPA na ito ay may posibilidad itong magprogress into tropical depression,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz said in a weather forecast at 4 a.m.

Meanwhile, typhoon Pepito that earlier exited PAR was last spotted 520 kilometers west of northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph, and is slowly moving north-northwest.

Pagasa said that while Pepito is already outside PAR, its trough is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
