MANILA, Philippines — Hundreds of protesters from various progressive groups gathered at Mendiola in Manila to hold a protest to mark the National Day of Defiance and National Peasant Month.
In photos from the Kilusang Mayo Uno, Gabriela party-list, and the Kilusang Magbubukid, the protesters can be seen holding placards during the protest.
The protesters called for the junking of the Rice Tariffication Law, the Anti-Terror Act, and the ouster of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Muli tayong umapak sa Mendiola ngayong araw upang ibaba ang hatol ng #HukumangMagbubukid sa rehimeng Duterte. Mabuhay ang sambayanang lumalaban!” the KMU said in its Facebook post.
“Day of Defiance: Kaisa ang mga kababaihan sa pagkilos ng mga magsasaka ngayong araw sa Mendiola para igiit ng lupa, pagkain at hustisya! Panagutin ang rehimeng Duterte sa kanyang mga krimen at pagpapahirap sa mga magsasaka at sa bayan!” Gabriela Women’s party-list, meanwhile, said.
